From a simple port to the most popular cruise port of the Mediterranean
Kusadasi Cruise Port was constructed in 1968 with one quay, and was operated by the TDI (Turkiye Denizcilik Isletmeleri A.S./Turkish Maritime Organization Inc.) until its privatization in
2003. In
1988, a second quay was built and the Port capacity was enlarged.
In 1993, the Council of Ministers decided to privatize the operation rights of the Port and the PA (Ozellestirme Idaresi/Privatization Administration) of Turkey privatized the Port of Kuşadası by means of a 30 year transfer of operating rights agreement (the “Concession”) in July 2003 pursuant to which a privately held joint venture company acquired such Concession.
The Tender was awarded to the consortium (“the Consortium”) of Ege Liman Hizmetleri A.Ş. “Ege Ports”.
In the 3rd July 2003, TDI transferred the operation rights of the Port for a period of 30 years, which includes sheltering, pilotage, tugging, water supply, handling, waste removal, passenger lodge administration, repair and maintenance services to the cruise ships visiting the port. Additionally, TDI transferred the ownership of fixtures, equipment, machinery, land and marine vehicles, and land improvements of the Port through asset sale method.
